NRC 1998 EXERCISE SCHEDULE
Dear Dr. Van Binnebeek:
In accordance with your request, I am enclosing the NRC exercise participation schedule for calendar year 1998. The NRC schedule was developed in coordination with the licensees, States, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and reflects our goal to participate with each State on a three-year cycle. For your information, ' Full" exercises indicated on the schedule refer to those exercises that involve extensive participation by botn the licensee and offsite authorities. NRC participation incluces a NRC regional office, the NRC Headquarters Operations Center (HOC), and a NRC site team. Other Federal agencies-participate as well. These exercises are conducted about 4 or 5 times per year, at least once wit'1 each ragional office.

NRC participation in this dry run exercise is based upon an agreement to play in the 5/5 7/98 Salem exercise. A limited number of NRC staff will play.
$he level of NRC HQ and regional participation is to be determined for this gaseuus diffusion plant exercise.
s Gaseous D6ffusion Plant exercise with limited HQ participation, Regional Base and Site Team play "This is a FEMA hurricane related exercise with minimal HQ and Region NRC participation anticipated.
I This exercise will involve significant Federal participation. It will demonstrate interactions among the States of NJ and DE, licensee, NRC, DOE, FEMA, HHS, USDA and EPA. It is not an FFE.
' Request from NH for NRC and FEMA regions to play in Joint Information Center
' Ingestion play will be on the 21st, preceeding Full participation plume phase on the 22nd.
'U Region N has the lead for this Tabletop exercise based on a request from Mississippi.
