Dear Mr. Lohaus:

This letter is in response to your request regarding compatibility with 10 CFR 20. 0 ir staff has reviewed the documents prepared by NRC's contractor in Oak Ridge and Ends only three pro isions required for compatibility and two revisions suggested for clarity, as stated in your letter ofAugust 14,1997. Please advise if you disagree with this conclusion.

These items will be included with other amendments required by 60 FR 36038 in the next changes to be proposed to the louisiana Radiation Regulations by the Radiation Protection Disision.

The division should begin the rule-making process within the next 30 days.

IfI may say r,o, it appears that a considerable amount of effort and expense were expended in order to review state regulations for compatibility. I do hope it was worth it.

If additional information or clarification is required, please advise me.

Very truly yours, M -

William H. Spell, Administrator Radiation Protection Division WHS/JRS/whs c: Gus Von Bodungen, Ass't Sec'y, DEQ Charles A. Hackney, NRC, RIV Dr James Sanford, Licen & Regist. Sect.
