Dear Mr. Stimmell:

An NRC inspection was conducted December 15,1997, at your Vallecitos Nuclear Center facility. Followup discussions relative to the inspection were held with members of your staff on December 9,1997. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection.

During the inspection, your conduct of activities at the Vallecitos facility was 9enerally characterized by implementation of effective programs in the areas of radiation saft ty, radioactive e#luents, environmental protection, emergency preparedness, solid wat.te operations, and transportation of radioactive materials.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.700 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
