Nuclear energy produces a relatively small amount of waste but that waste remains fantastically dangerous for thousands, if not tens of thousands, of years. This Holtec proposal entails a risk of permanent damage to New Mexicans and their environment that is unacceptable. In our consideration we must prioritize the long term risks over the short-term benefits.
