SUMMARY

OF MARCH 30,1999 MEETING WITH BALTIMORE GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY (BGE) REGARDING LICENSE RENEWAL AC TlVITIES FOR CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT NOS.1 AND 2 On March 30,1999, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a public meeting with representatives of BGE at Rockville, Maryland, to discuss the status of the NRC's review of BGE's license renewal application (LRA) for the Calmt Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units 1, and 2.

During the meeting the staff summarized progress made on the BGE LRA review which included issuance of the safety evaluation report (SER) on March 21,1999, and the public meeting on the supplement to the environmental impact statement conducted on April 6,1999. Additionally, the staff summarized the re'sults from the recently issued scoping inspection report (NRC inspection report 99-02). BGE stated that they believed they met the rule regarding the Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) supplement and were concemed if the resolution of the open item regaroing the content of the FSAR supplement was tied to the implementation of 10 CFR 50.71(e) changes. The staff stated that recent developments related to 10 CFR 50.71(e) would only be used to inform the staff regarding the level of detail and content. BGE also raised a concem regarding the confirmatory item related to Generic Safety issue 190 outlined in the SER because BGE considered that they had met all requirements to address the issue. to this meeting summary provides a list of the meeting attendees. Enclosure 2 provides a copy of slides that were used by the NRC staff and BGE to summarize the status of the review of BGE's license renewal application.
