NRC STAFF'S ANSWERS TO ADDITIONAL l OUESTIONS BY THE PRESIDING OFFICER The NRC Staff (Staff) hereby files its answers to the additional questions set forth in the Presiding Officer's Order dated June 16,1999.' The Staff's answers, attached hereto, are in the form of an affidavit by Mr. Hironori Peterson, Senior License Examiner, consistent with the Presiding Officer's previous instructions that answers by the par:ies are to be under oath or affirmation. Exhibits referenced in the answers are appended to the affidavit.2

'The original June 3 1999 due date contained in the Presiding Officer's Order for the Staff's answers was extended by the Presiding Officer to July 9,1999, in response to the NRC Staff's Motion for Extension of Time (June 23,1999). Mr. Philippon's responses, if any, are now due July 23,1999.

2 Several of the exhibits may also be found in the existing hearing file. However, the Staff believed it would be helpful to attach these specific items directly to the affidavit for the convenience of the reader.
