I am a Volunteer Firefighter in the town of Br&nt and I would like you to know that I support the proposed Interpretive Rule concerning low power testing for nuclear power plants.
I would also like you to know that vol unteer firefighters, rescue personnel, police, etc., in our region would respond to a nuclear emergency in the same professional manner as they respond to fires, chemical spills, gasoline truck rollovers or any other life / health threatening situa-tion.
The following is a true story that occured one night in Brentwood:
One of the residents in town became seriously ill one night about a year ago.
He happened to be a fairly active anti-nuclear spokesman against the sirens installed by Seabrook Staion.
He has an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from a prestigeous Massechusettes University and argued fervently against the sirens based on their maximum design dB rating, i.e.,
that the noise levels could injure eardrums of individuals living close to a siren pole.
In any event, he became a familiar face at town meetings and somewhat of a thorn in the side of the town's Civil Defense Director.
The Civil Defense Director also happened to be a senior rescue volunteer.
The night that the ant i-nt; individual became ill the Civil Defense Director v
happened to res, o the ambulance call in the early morning hours.
It so happened tnm 111 person was experiencing a considerable amount of discomfort.
When he recognized the Civil Defense Director and noted his actions as an EMT to (probably what seemed like) save hic life, he uttered a statement something to the effect that, "Well, I guess this means that you get your poles!"
It seems incredible that anyone could make a connection between a political battle over siren poles and saving a lif e in a real emergency.
The characteristics of the emergency volunteers and full time professionals are such that there is no question as to what they would do in a real situation.
Please make your decision based on logic rather than emotion.
