Mr. Doug Walker DEC 2 1993 Senior Health Physicist INEEL Oversight Program 900 North Skyline, Suite C Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402

Dear Mr. Walker:

I am pleased to learn of your appointment by Governor Batt as the State Liaison Officer to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission from the State of Idaho.

The NRC looks to the Govemor appointed State Liaison Officer to provide a communication channel between the State and the NRC; to be the key person in the State to keep the Governor informed on regulatory, radiological public health and safety or other matters of interest to the Governor; to keep other officials within the State informed on regulatory and public health and safety matters as appropriate to their interests and/or responsibilities; and to provide NRC with information on particular issues.

We are placing you on a special mailing list so that on a regular basis you will receive copies of NRC documents and reports to keep you informed of matters that may be of interest to States.

Also, NRC conducts a national State Liaison Officers' meeting every three years, and regional meetings on an as needed basis, to discuss matters of mutual regulatory interest.

Charles A. Hackney, our Regional State Liaison Officer in the NRC Region IV Office located in Arlington, Texas will be your main contact for routine communications at (817) 860-8267. In the event of his unavailability, please do not hesitate to call me at Headquarters or Spiros Droggitis of my staff at (301) 415-3340, concerning any questions you may have.
