Dear Chairman:

The President's Council of Hutchinson Island, Inc., represents twenty-five condominiums, totaling more than 5,000 residential units on South Hutchinson Island. All of these units are within five miles of the Florida Power & Light nuclear power plant on Hutchinson Island.

The Council understands that Florida Power & Light has requested that a scheduled hearing on that company's proposed change to a more concentrated storage system for spent nuclear fuels be closed to the public.

The Council opposes that request and asks that any hearing, the results of which could greatly affect the residents of South Hutchinson Island, be open to the public. We can see no reason why a matter which may affect public safety should not be discussed publicly.
