DOCKET 50-155 - LICENSE DPR BIG ROCK POINT PLANT - NEETING TO DISCUSS THE PERMANENT SHUTDOWN AND DECOMMISSIONING OF BIG ROCK POINT.
Consumers Energy Company notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) by letters dated June 18, 1997, and June 26, 1997, of its intentions to permanently cease operations of the Big Rock Point Nuclear Plant.
Decommissioning is expected to commence on/or about September 15, 1997, after all the fuel has been removed from the reactor vessel.
The purpose of this letter is to confirm that a meeting has been scheduled for August 13, 1997, at Region III headquarters 0 1300 CST with interested parties in the NRC to discuss Consumers Energy Company's plans to immediately dismantle the plant in accordance with the Big Rock Point Post Shutdown Decommissioning Activities Report (PSDAR). This meeting will provide an opportunity for the NRC to become more familiar with Big Rock Point's current decommissioning plans and for the Big Rock Point staff to understand the NRC's plans for transition and follow-on activities during decommissioning.
