NRC STAF: PARTIAL RESPONSE TO INTERVENORS' MOTION To RECONSIDER DISCOVERY ORDERS The NRC Staff herewl:h responds to that part of Intervenors' March 1, 1988, filing which moves for an extension of the time set by the Board for discovery on the EBS and hospital evacuation issues, in its February 8, 1988 Memorandum and Order the Board put the parties on notice that no further motions for extensions of time would be considered after February 19, 1988.

Intervenors set out no reason why they should be allowed to make this motion in contravention of the Board's order.

Further, intervenors have provided no valid reasons why the Board should g rant an extension of time on the narrow issues concerning the EBS and hospital evacuation issues. O The Board should summarily

The proliferation of discovery on the school bus driver issue demonstrates that providing extensive periods for discovery complicates rather than simplifies the proceeding,

without contributing to a proper resolution of the issue.
