Dear Mr. Vaughan:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received your letter dated May 29,1999, discussing the availability of documents, through the NRC's Public Document Room (PDR),
exchanged between NRC and the Coalition on West Valley Nuclear Wastes and/or yourself.
While every effort is made to make sure that appropriate documents are made available to the public through the PDR, sometimes this does not happen as it should. All of the documents that you identified are appropriate for public availability and they will be made available through the PDR. I appreciate your efforts in bringing this issue to our attention. Related to this, NRC recently announced proposed changes to the PDR program (see enclosed Federal Register notice) that will make it easier for the public to access NRC's public records. The NRC is .
seeking comments on these proposed changes through our Office of the Secretary. In the
. future, extra care will be taken to ensure that appropriate West Valley documents are released though the PDR.
Sincerely,
