hRC Till-E CLEANUP PROJECT DIRECTORATE STATUS REPORT FOR JANUARY 4, 1983 - JANUARY 31, 1938 1.
DEFUELING The core drilling mchine 3reviously used to obtain core sanples froo the fuel debris pile las been installed on the defueling work platfom.
It is being used for disasseisly of the lower core support assenbly (LCSA) so that the lower reactor vessel head can be accessed for defueling. All 52 incore instrune:at spiders at the upper end of instrunent guide assecblies have been drilled out and drilling of the peripheral instrurwnt guide tubes is in progress.
This will be followed by drilling of the support posts and plasm arc cutting and remval of the lowr grid distributor plate and grid forging. As fuel end core d-bris are found during the process they will be renoved or relocated tc the reactor vessel lower head.

EUVIROM!EfiTAL_ MONITORING US Environnental Protection Agency (EPA) sanple analysis results shew that THI site liquid effluents are in accordence with regulatory linits, liRC requira ents, and the City of Lancaster Agreenent.
THI water effluents froa the station (Units 1 and 2) discharge aN analyzed by EPA.
Garua spectrun analyses of the daily couposited sanples for Decenber 12, 1987 through January 15, 1933, showed no reactor ralated activity.
EPA's garm spectrun analysis of the NRC's TNI outdoor air sanples for i;ovenber 26 through Decott r 21, 1937, thNugh Jcnuary 13, 1903, shewtd no reactor related radioactivity.
Daily water sauples 6re taken at the City of Lancaster water works intake.
These daily sarplcs are composited and are analyzed by the EPA weekly. EPA's gami spectrum ar.alysis of cmpasite sanples for December 13, 1937 through January 16, 1933, showed no reactor related radioactivity.
