NRD SITE VISIT 1
Enclosed is a report concerning a site visit of NRD, Inc. on February 9, 1988 conducted by Robert Kelly, New York Department of Labor, and Joel Lubenau and Donald Mackenzie of State Local and Indian Tribe Programs, GPA. This visit was arranged as a result of the 3M static eliminator situation to ascertain whether a similar problem existed at NRD, Inc.
NRD, Inc. uses a different manufacturing process to construct their Po-210 source. This process, described in the enclosed report, has not shown any indication of exhibiting similar problers to the 3M static eliminator Po-210 seurces. While at the NRD facility, a visit to an NPD static eliminator user in tbc Fuffale area, Lenzart Color Laboratories, was arranged. The results of surveys at this facility frdicated no contamination of the static eliminators or the process area.
Notwithstanding the results of this visit, we believe it would be prudent for additional surveys to be conducted of a sorple of NRD static eliminators to confirm that the NRD static eliminators are meeting performance standards.
We have asked the New York State Department of Lahor te obtain a customer list from NRD. We plan to work with New York on conducting additional surveys.
