Dear Senator Mulkulski:
I was distressed and frightened today, on reading the Washington Post (p. A3), to see a UPI report concerning the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's ignoring of pipe corrosion and erosion at nuclear power plants, including the one at Calvert Cliffs, Units 1 and 2.
We have been fortunate, in Southern Maryland, that there have been no serious problems at Calvert Cliffs, but as that facility gets older, constant attention and care must be paic because the possibilities of not only minor, but also major catastrophe incr ease.
I am writing to request that you look into this report and, if it is indeed true, that you take whatever actions you can to insure that those of us who' live in Southern Maryland (as well as all U.S.
citizens who live near nuclear power plants) can be assured that pipe corrosion and erosion will be corrected so as to avoid any problems in the future.
I hope to hear from you concerning the problem and the actions you take.
If I can be of any assistance in this process, please let me know.
I appreciate your prompt attention to this very serious concern.
Sincerely,
. r g *.-
p Dr. Michael Glaser
