Dear Sir:

This special report is submitted in accordance with LaSalle Unit 2 operating License, NPF-18, Appendix A, Technical Specification 3.7.6 and 6.6.C.

On October 13, 1988, at 1410 hours0.0163 days
0.392 hours
0.00233 weeks
5.36505e-4 months
and on October 15, 1988, fire doors 406 end 393 respectively, were blocked open.

Fire door 406 was blocked open to allow the passage of a security cable needed to supply power to a card reader which was temporarily situated in the Reactor Building on 740' elevation to monitor the passage of workers into and out of the Unit 2 primary containment area.

Door 393 was blocked open to allow the passage of a high voltage cable needed to supply power to electrical equipment necessary for the performance of chemical decontamination work.

Fire doors 406 and 393 were inoperable for greater than seven (7) days and l

therefore eyceeded the 7-day period allowed by Technical Specification 3.7.6 prior to requiring a special report.

The 7-day limit was exceeded because the work could not be completed within this time frame and no other suitable cable I

routing paths were found.

To assure that the level of fire protection does not decrease during the I

course of these events, LaSalle has met the requirements of Action Statement "a" of Technical Specification 3.7.6 by verifying fire detection on at least one side of each of the affected assemblies to be operable and establishing an hourly fire watch.

Fire door 406 will be returned to operable status upon completion of the Unit 2 refueling outage.

Fire door 393 will be returned to operable status upon completion of the chemical decontamination and associated work currently scheduled for December 5, 1988.
