LLWM COMMENTS ON AGREEMEllT STATE REVIEW SCHEDULE (NMSS TICKET 8800287)
In accordance with NMSS ticket 8800287, we have attached our comments on the tentative schedule for review of Agreement State Programs contained in Carlton Kammerer's memorandum of May 16. These comments have been coordinated with the other LLWM branches and identify not only special areas of concern, but also those reviews where we believe LLWM should provids technical assistance to SLITP in the conduct of the review.

- 1. Arizona Visit:
- a. Readiness of Arizona regulatory program to license a low-level waste site given their status as host state for the Western Compact.
- 2. North Carolina Visit:
- a. Plans for securing engineering and geosciences expertise for siting and design aspects of license review.
- b. Plans for oversight and assuring adequacy of contractor products, if contractors are used.
- c. General licensing approach, including plans fo.'
both safety and environmental reivews.
- 3. Illinois Visit:

- a. Resolution of findings and recommendations made during April visit.
- b. Review of State's actions regarding site stability concerns expressed by LLWM for Ward Valley site.

- a. Review of State's actions regarding concerns raised in our 1987 program review: specifically, the status of the current licensing effort and procedures and means for enforcement.
