Gentlemen:

l .

On October 8,1998 a sam}.le was drawn from the industrial wastewater for monthly analysis per the requirements of LCDU Permit No. 1004911. On October 20,1998, a phone message was received from the vendor laborrWry, indicating the analysis showed oil and grease ccntent exceeding the permit limit. All other require! .alysis were within the parameters of the permit. The vendor was instructed to take a new sample imr. riiately The results of both oil and grease samples follow.

Sample Parameter Sample EPA Analysis Discharge Analysis Date Type Method Date Limit Result i

10/8/98 Oil and Grease Grab 1664 10/13/98 50 mg/L 180 mg/L 10/20/98 Oil and Grease Grab 1664 10/22/98 50 mg/L 15 mg/L On October 20, Ms. Donna Tizzano notified your office by telephone. At that time, she was instructed to provide you with written notice of the results of both sample aalyses. This letter serves as that notice, it n is my understanding that a Notice of Violation will be issued by the LCDU, and that based on the results of the second sample, no further action will be necessary.

Since the results of the second sample were representative of historical sample results and well within permit limits it was determined that a slug was present in the first sample. The industrial waste water from

l. the Perry Plant is primarily from kitchens and bathrooms, therefore it is likely that the slug was caused by a i discarded household type product.

A complete report of the monthly sample analysis required by the permit will be submitted for the current p'

quarter in December, as required. If you have questions or require additional information, please contact Ms. Donna Tizzano at (440) 280-5514.

Very truly yours, cc: O
