NRC STAFF'S MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME Pursuant to 10 C.F.R. 552.711 and 2.730, the NRC Staff (" Staff")

herchy respectfully requests an extension of time of one week, until June 6, 1986, in which to file a response to the "Brief in Support of Attorney General Francis X. Bellotti's Appeal of Licensing Board Order of April 29, 1086"

(" Mas s AG's Brief").

In support of this request,

the Staff respectfully states as follows:

1.

The MassAG's Brief was filed on May 15, 1986.

Pursuant to 10 C.F.R.

I 2.714a, the Staff's response to the MAssAG's Brief is currently due to be filed by Friday, May 30, 1986.

2.

The certificate of service attached to the MassAG's Brief reflects that an incorrect mailing address was utilized in serving the Staff.

The Staff learned only indirectly that the MassAG's Brief had been filed, on or about May 22,198G, on which date Staff counsel first secured a copy of that brief by obtaining a photocopy from the Appeal Board's office.

3. Due to the Staff's late receipt of the MassAG's Brief, as well as the press of other pending matters in this proceeding, the Staff

s requires an extension of time of approximately one week in which to file its response to the MassAG's Brief.

4. Counsel for the Staff has contacted Carol S.

Sneider, Esq., of the Massachusetts Attorney General's office, and has been authorized to state that the Massachusetts Attorney General does not object to the. grant of this request in light of the improper service of the MassAG's Brief made upon Staff Counsel.

Wherefore, the Staff respectfully requests an extension of time of one week, until June 6, 1986, in which to file its brief in response to the "Brief in Support of Attorney General Francis X.

Bellotti's Appeal of Licensing Board Order of April 29, 1986."
