Transportation Certification Branch Approval Record Model No. UNC-2500 Package Docket No. 71-5641 By applications dated April 25 and 28,1986, UNC Naval Products requested an amendment to Certificate of Compliance No. 5641.
The request would pemit the shipment of two fuel clusters (Item 6D, page 10.0.70) rather than one fuel cluster.
Additionally, the applicant requested that pages 10.0-8,10.0-9, and 10.0-10 be added to the Table of Contents.
The Westinghouse Monte Carlo (RCP01) computer progran together with the neutron cross-section set provided by the code RCPL1 were used by the applicant to establish the subcriticality of two clusters under full water moderation and reflection. The most reactive fuel components, separation distances, and possible geometric arrangements for two clusters under accident conditions were considered using the PCP01/RCPL1 codes.
All k,ff's were calculated as subcritical.
A detailed sensitivity study for an array of clusters under varying reduced internal / external moderation showed the clusters to be subcritical.
The RCP01/RCPL1 were established previously by NRC staff to give essentially identical k
's for the same naval-fuel problen as did KENO-IV/123-group and t8kKAPL Naval Ponte Carlo computer progran.
The additional pages were not added to the table because, as in the past, these pages are not specific.
The revised contents meets the requirements of 10 C R Part 71.
