July 1, 2020 10:48 AM from Kalene Walker (privately):
I got bumped off the call, and cannot get back on. Is this presentation being recorded?
July 1, 2020 10:49 AM from Marlayna Doell to Kalene Walker (privately):
It is but you should not be locked out. Weird...and sorry about that. Hopefully it will work in a few minutes.
2 July 1, 2020 10:52 AM from Conrad Miller MD to host (privately):
So you are not measuring any specific concentrations of any specific radionuclides, correct?
Just calling it VLLW. But still ready to dump radioactive waste into dumps you decide to send it to? At a later date?
July 1, 2020 10:54 AM from Marlayna Doell to Conrad Miller MD (privately):
Hi Conrad. I think this is being addressed in the presentation now. Namely that we would need to know the waste characteristics before any approval would be considered.
July 1, 2020 10:54 AM from Conrad Miller MD to host (privately):
Sounds like Below Regulatory Concern Deja Vu All Over Again.
July 1, 2020 10:57 AM from Conrad Miller MD to host (privately):
100 millirem per year is annual 'background radiation' citizens are exposed to, and this would add 25% more radiation to that theoretical exposure at 25 millrem/year.
July 1, 2020 10:58 AM from Conrad Miller MD to host (privately):
Some people like to add in CAT scans and radon and other add-ons so additional exposure on top of that seems to be a smaller percentage of the total. Which is BS.
July 1, 2020 11:07 AM from Conrad Miller MD to host (privately):
So you are further deregulating nuclear waste, eliminating NRC direct oversight, letting XYZ decide to take whatever form of waste they wish to accept. Adding more possible corruption to one of the most corrupted/corruptive industry that exists on planet Earth: the nuclear industry.
July 1, 2020 11:09 AM from Maria Caine to all panelists:
I'm a little confused. Would sites applying for exemption be required to complete an Environmental Impact Statement under NEPA and would NRC be enforcing this?
July 1, 2020 11:11 AM from Earl Fordham to host (privately):
If the NRC does not envision the use of the Uniform Manifest for the transport of VLLW, what mechanism does the NRC view as appropriate?
July 1, 2020 11:22 AM from Kalene Walker (privately):
Will the recording of the presentation be posted? The connection has broken up.
July 1, 2020 11:22 AM from Maria Caine to all panelists:
Apologies but I'm still confused. I see the slide discussing NEPA, but on the very next slide which provides an example scenario there is no mention of NEPA or an EIS. Would each site
3 applying for an exemption be required to prepare an EIS that would be available for public comment before being granted an exemption?
July 1, 2020 11:24 AM from Marlayna Doell to Maria Caine (privately):
Thanks Maria. The NEPA requirements are one of the things we are thinking through as part of potential implementation. I will note your question and make sure it is recorded.
July 1, 2020 11:25 AM from Marlayna Doell to Earl Fordham (privately):
Thanks Earl. Use of the UWM is one of the things we are thinking through as part of potential implementation. I will note your question and make sure it is recorded.
July 1, 2020 11:28 AM from Earl Fordham to host (privately):
I would strongly encourage the use of UWM as it would provide data needed to verify compliance with DOT and the PA.
July 1, 2020 12:01 PM from Paul Schwartz to host & presenter:
May I suggest you have each speaker say who they are affiliated with. For example, local resident, representing a company or watch group - thank you.
July 1, 2020 12:24 PM from Earl Fordham to host (privately):
Is the NRC evaluating a second comment extension?
July 1, 2020 12:25 PM from Marlayna Doell to Earl Fordham (privately):
We have not received any requests to extend the comment period at this time, but would consider any such requests if they provide a reasonable justification for needing more time for comments.
July 1, 2020 12:38 PM from Earl Fordham to host (privately):
Will this issue be settled before Part 61 is finalized?
July 1, 2020 12:44 PM from Marlayna Doell to Earl Fordham (privately):
I am not involved in the Part 61 activities so I can't speculate on the timeframe of one versus the other.
