PROJECT AIMSTATUSUPDATE April 1 June 30,2020 IntheJune 8,2015, staff requirements memorandum for SECY-15-0015, "Project Aim2020 Reportand Recommendations," theCommission directed the staff tocomplete 19tasks to address theU.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) need to improve efficiency and agility, aswellastoright-size the agency,while retaining employees with theappropriate skillsto accomplish itsmission and streamline processes.

TheNRCstaff continues to implement several projects related toProject Aim.Twonotable accomplishments forthe period of April through June 2020arediscussed below.

Project16.ExpanduseofFederal Personnel andPayroll System Theintent ofProject 16wastoincrease efficiency intheprocessing ofpersonnel actions by taking advantage ofworkflow capabilities included inthe Federal Personnel andPayroll System that allow requesting office personnel toinitiate, authorize, andforward these actions electronically toservicing personnel office specialists. Electronic handling ofpersonnel actions eliminatestheneed for printed SF-52 forms and the additional time r equiredto transmit them manually between therequesting office andOffice of the ChiefHumanCapital Officer.

Project16experienced substantial delays duetoincompatibility issuesbetween the former standardoperating system used onagency workstations,Windows 7,andthe Federal Personnel andPayroll System. These issues werenotresolved until the refresh of workstations from Windows 7toWindows 10wascompleted inthe firstquarter offiscal year2020. Theproject is nowback ontrack with a current target date for completion byOctober 31, 2020.

Project21,Full useofFederal Personnel/Payroll System Project 21,the roll-out ofrequesting office initiation andauthorization ofall personnel actions,will immediately begin uponcompletion ofProject 16.Project 21will includetraining for all agency personnelwho be will required toinitiate orauthorize personnel actions.
