Technical Support Branch Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards SUBECT: ANALYSIS OF NRR RESPONSE TO ACRS LETTER - RESPONSE TO ACRS REPORT ON THE SAFETY ASPECTS OF THE SUBSEQUENT LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION OF THE SURRY POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 Attached is a copy of the Deputy Office Director for New Reactors, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation June 1, 2020, email of a response to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) Letter Report dated April 30, 2020, on the Report on the Safety Aspects of the Subsequent License Renewal Application of the Surry Power Station, Units 1 and 2.

A copy of the Committees April 30, 2020 letter is also attached.

Committee Letter In its April 30, 2020 letter, the ACRS included the following conclusions and recommendations:

1. The established programs and the commitments made by Virginia Electric and Power Company (Dominion) provide reasonable assurance that Surry can be operated in accordance with its current licensing basis for the subsequent period of extended operation without undue risk to the health and safety of the public.
2. The Dominion application for subsequent license renewal of the operating license for Surry should be approved.

M. Sunseri EDO Response In its June 1, 2020 email, the Deputy Office Director for New Reactors, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation provided the following response:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff appreciates the Committees objective and in-depth review of the Surry subsequent license renewal application and the staffs final safety evaluation report. The NRC staff recognizes and values the Committees commitment to safety and its important role in the license renewal process.

Analysis Based on the above discussion, the Deputy Office Director for New Reactors, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulations response is satisfactory.
