I am sure that BNSF will also maintain this same safety culture as it transports SNF all across the US to it final storage location.
Yes, SONGS is close to completing the transfer of all SNF to dry storage. The cask in this interim location will eventually be transported to HI-STORE CISF.
The NRC has scheduled the first of several final reviews of the DEIS as a seminar on 6/23/2020 for HI-STORE CISF license.
And then in the following decades, convert the SNF to Chloride salt fuel for Elysium's Molten Chloride Salt Fast Reactor (MCSFR) for final actinide consumption to make 30x the energy as SONGS, and conversion to 100 year fission products (by the MCSFR).
I am sure there will be plenty of room at WIPP for the few tons of FP a hundred years from now. In the mean time, lets also build a SNF conversion facility in the nuclear corridor right next door to HI-STORE CISF and provide all the MCSFR nuclear fuel for centuries into the future of nuclear energy.
I would love to see New Mexico with the first MCSFR to replace all those wind and solar farms with their 25 Page 1 of 2 06/17/2020 https://www.fdms.gov/fdms/getcontent?objectId=09000064846e6d23&format=xml&showorig=false SUNSI Review Complete Template = ADM-013 E-RIDS=ADM-03 ADD: Jill Caverly COMMENT (49)

year life cycle before they have to be replaced. But, the political climate of New Mexico would have to change a lot for that to happen. One can hope!
