NRC INSPECTION REPORT 70-925/98-02 l l

Dear Mr. Larsen:

l l On September 24,1998, the NRC concluded the onsite portion of an inspection of the Cimarron site near Crescent, Oklahoms. On October 22,1998, the NRC held a telephone discussion i with you and members of your staff regarding the results of NRC analysis of Phase 11 Sub-Area J confirrratory soil and sediment samples. The enclosed report presents the scope l and results of the inspection.

. The inspection covered the work in progress related to Sub-Area J meeting the criteria in NRC L Branch Technical Position Option 1 and concrete slabs in Sub-Area G meeting the release l

criteria found in the Phase ill Final Status Survey Plan. Sampling activities conducted by your L staff were observed. Soil and sediment samples were collected from Sub-Area J for analysis by the NRC as part of the NRC's confirmatory sampling program for the Cimarron site. The results of these soil samples were compared with the results of the soil samples collected at the same locations by Cimarron. The results of the soil and sediment samples were consistent and confirmed that Sub-Area J met the NRC Branch Technical Position Option 1 criteria.

No violations or deviations of regulatory requirements were identified during this inspection. l
