INSPECTION REPORT 999-90063/98005(DNMS)

Dear Mr. Kopas:

This refers to the confirmatory survey conducted on August 25 and 27,1998, of the Englehard Building K-1 located at 1000 Harvard Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. The confirmatory survey was conducted to release the interior surfaces of Building K-1 for unrestricted use. We discussed the preliminary results of our surveys with a representative of your contractor, B. Koh & Associates, Inc., on August 25,1998. We also discussed the results of the laboratory analyses of the soil and wipe samples collected during the surveys with you via telephone on September 15,1998, and November 5,1998, respectively.

The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies the areas surveyed during the confirmatory surveys.

The confirmatory survey and sample analyses of the interior surfaces of Building K-1 found no radioactive materialin excess of the NRC unrestricted release guidelines. That building can be released for unrestricted use. Based on our reviews of the surveys performed by your contractor, B. Koh & Associates, Inc., the exterior surfaces of Buildings K-1, L-5 (Raw Shed),

L-1 and L-2 (Locker Room) and the Oxygen Tank Storage Wall can also be released for unrestricted use.

Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were identified.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
