Subject:
SUPPLEMENT TO HIENNIAL UPDATE OF SNM-33 DEMONSTRATION SECTIONS
Reference:
CE's submission of SNM-33, Part II, dated October 28,1998
Dear Sir:
The referenced biennial update to the SNM-33 demonstration sections inadvertently omitted the figures at the end of Chapter 14. In addition, certain text of three drawings in other chapters was difficult to read. This supplement provides the missing drawings and replaces the other drawings with clarified ones. There were no changes made to the text of the October 28 submission.
Enclosed is a description of these changes and a listing of affected pages. Six copies of this document are provided for your use.
Please contact me at (314) 937-4691, extension 399, if there are any questions.
Sincerely, COMBUSTION ENGINiiERING,INC.

Enclosure to RA98/823 November 3,1998 COMilUSTION ENGINEERING, INC.
SUPPLEMENT TO IIIENNIAL UPDATE OF LICENSE NO. SNM-33 PART II DESCRIPTION OF CIIANGES On October 28,1998 Combustion Engineering, Inc. submitted revised safety demonstration sections (Part II) to our license application to comply with condition 1.6(d). The sections were updated to reficct current operations and to include operational data and information on current environmental releases. Editorial changes and corrections were made and the sections were repaginated. Since the formatting was changed and the revised Part 11 was submitted in its entirety, this edition was designated
" revision 1" with a common date for all pages.
The October 28 submission inadvertently omitted the figures at the end of Chapter 14. In addition, text of three drawings in other chapters was difficult to read. This supplement provides the missing drawings and replaces the other drawings with clarified ones. There were no changes made to the text of the October 28 submission, so the " revision 1" designation and the October 28 date is retained on the supplement pages.
A brief description of significant changes follows:
Chapter 9-GENERAL INFORMATION-Figure 9-4 was revised to remove shading which obscured building numbers and area descriptions.
Chapter 13-ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY - RADIOLOGICAL-Figure 13-2 was revised to remove shading which obscured sample well locations and the drawing scale chart.
Chapter 14-CRITICALITY SAFETY-Figures 14-1 through 14-27 were omitted and are now provided.
Chapter 15-PROCESS DESCRIPTION AND SAFETY ANALYSIS-Figure 15.2-1 was revised to delete unreadable wording carried over from the engineering drawing and to clearly identify the IIF absorber system.

o 9.4.6 Seismological The east central Missouri general area is relatively active seismically. The southeastern area 1
of Missou~riis quite active seismically and also contains a portion of the New Madrid Fault that caused the " great earthquake" of 1811 and 1812. There were three quakes of Epicentral j
Intensity XII Modified Mercalli scale (M.M.) which took place on December 6,1811 and January 23 and February 7,1812, near New Madrid. During recent years, there have been two quakes recorded in the New Madrid area. In 1962 a quake measuring V (M.M.) was recorded and one j
with a magnitude of 4.5 was recorded in 1963. A quake reported as "the strongest in years" j
occurred near Caruthersville, Missouri,150 miles southeast of Hematite, on December 3, I
1980.
