Mr. Thomas E. Murley. Director Office of Nuclear Reactor K:gulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Subject:

LaSalle County Station Unit 2 Environmental Qualification of Bunker Ramo Containment Penetrations NRC Docket No. 50-379 Reference (a): Letter dated May 13, 1988 from D.M.

Crutchfield

Dear Mr. Murley:

This letter is to formally request a meeting with your staff to discuss the environmental qualification issue related to the Bunker Ramo containment penetrations installed in LaSalle Unit 2.

Commonwealth Edison (Ceco) previously requested this meeting verbally but has been asked by the Licensing Project Manager to put this request in writing.

Contrary to the position stated in Reference (a), the documentation (test reports) used by Ceco to support our position that these penetrations are qualified for LaSalle Unit 2 is not similar to that used for Braidwood 2.

Specific teat data were supplied for LaSalle which we believe meets require-ments for a NUREG-0588, Category II plant. Resolution of this difference of opinion can best be resolved with a face to face meeting with your technical review staff.

If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please direct them to this office.

Very truly yours, C. M. Allen Nuclear Licensing Administrator 1m Attachment cc: NRC Resident Inspector - LSCS 4754K 8806200006 880606 PDR ADOCK 05000374 F4CD ___
