Request for Approval of PVRC Damping Analysis Method - Pesponse to Request for Clarification

Dear Sir:

The purpose of this letter is to respond to the NRC Staff's April 7, 1986 request for clarification concerning the subject request for approval of PVRC damping analysis methods, submitted March 27, 1986 [ Reference (b)).

Specifically, clarification was requested concerning the treatment of heavy equipment within the piping analysis models.

Please be advised that the analysis of piping does not include heavy equipment in the analysis model. The piping analysis model ends at a suitable equipment anchorage, but the heavy equipment itself is not included in the piping model. Effects of piping loads on anchored equipment are of course evaluated as stated in Reference (b).

We believe this clarification adequately addresses the Staff's concern; however, should you have further questions or require additional information regarding this matter, please contact this office.

Very truly yours, VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER CORPORATION g[
