Vermont Yankee Response to NRC BC letin No. 88-03:
i Inadequate Latch Engagement in HFA-Type Latching Relays Manufactured by General Electric (GE) Company 1
The subject bulletin (Reference b)) requested that licensees per-l form inspections to ensure that all GE latching-type HFA relays j
installed in Class IE (safety-related) applications have adequate latch engagenrent and that those relays which fail to meet acceptance criteria i
be repaired or replaced. Further, the bulletin requested that any I
addressee not having HFA-type latching relays subject to this bulletin provide a letter stating this fact within 120 days of receipt of the bulletin. Accordingly, Vermont Yankee's response is provided hertrin, i
pursuant to the provisions of Section 182a of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, including the provisions of 10CFR50.54(f).
Upon receipt of NRC Bulletin No. 88-03, VerrSont Yankee initiated a review to determine whether GE late:6ing-type HFA relays subject to this bulletin have been installed in Class 1E (safety-related) applications at the plant.
This review concluded that no relays subject to this l
bulletin are used in any application et the Vermont Yankee station.
Further, Vermont Yankee is not considering any future use of these l
relays.
