Washington, DC 20585 Dear Ms. Dedik This refers to our letter to you dated July 3,1998, which requested your assistance in obtaining a letter of assurance from the Government of Switzerland that the transfer of low-enriched uranium from the U.S. to Switzerland, under export license XSNM01906, for use as reload fuel in the Muhleberg Nuclear Power Plant, would be subject to the : arms and conditions of the Agreement for Cooperation Between the Government of the United States and the Swiss Federal Council Conceming Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, which entered into force on.
June 23,1998. The export authority under export license XSNM01906 was suspended in August 1996 upon the expiration of the previous Agreement for Cooperation.
General Electric Company is anxious to resume shipments of the fuel to Switzerland as soon as possible and a company representative, Mary Jo LaRue, has contacted us numerous times regarding the pressing need for the license amendment. Your assistance in obtaining the assurances on an urgent basis would be great'y appreciated.
We are prepared to issue the license amendment as soon as you advise us that the assurances have been received.
