Dear Mr. John Toohes:
On July 9,1998, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held two public environmental scoping meetings in Solomons, Maryland in support of the NRC staff's review of the application for renewal of the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2 submitted by Baltimore Gas and Electric Company on April 10,1998.
The scoping process, of which the public meetings were a part, is the first step in the development of the plant-specific supplement to the Generic EnvironmentalImpact Statement for Licence Renewal of Nuclear Power Plants (GEIS).
The NRC staff has prepared an environmental scoping summary report identifying comments received in writing and at the July 9,1998, Calvert Cliffs license renewal environmental scoping meetings. In accordance with 10 CFR 51.29 (b), you are being provided a copy of the scoping summary report. The environmental report submitted by BGE is available for public inspection at the Commission's Public Document Room in the Gelman Building,2120 L Street, N.W., Washington, DC, and at the Local Public Document Room located in the Calvert County Public Library, 30 Duke Street, Prince Frederick, MD 20678. The transcripts of the meetings can be found on the web at http://www.nrc. gov /OPA/ reports. The next opportunity for public participation in the process will be in March 1999 when the draft supplement to the GEIS will be published for public comment. Notice of the availability of the draft supplement to the GEIS and the procedures for providing public coniment will be published in the Federa/ Register.
