INSPECTION RESULTS

Reference:

NRC Bulletin No. 88-01: Defects in Westinghouse Circuit Breakers, dated February 5, 1988 This letter provides NRC with the results of the inspections of SQN unit 1 Westinghouse Electric Corporation (H) breaker models05-206 and 416 used in class IE applications as required by NRCB 88-01 (reference letter).

The inspection of all breakers required for unit 1 operation used in class IE applications has been performed in accordance with the criteria provided by the referenced letter.

A total of 56 breakers was inspected. provides a breakdown of the total number of each type of breaker inspected (05-206 and -416),

the number that passed the inspection criteria as outilned in the l

reference letter, and the number of new pole shafts installed or repaired.

None of the breakers inspected required corrective actions because of mechanism alignments as provided in the subject bulletin.

There are a total of five breakers (05-206) that will rot be completed before unit I restart.

These breakers are removed from their respective I

breaker compartments as required by the 45N749 series of drawings and are not required for plant operation.

Inspections of these five remaining breakers will, however, be completed by the end of the unit 2 cycle 3 refueling outage. A Itst of these breakers is provided in enclosure 2.

The result: of these inspections will be provided in the SQN unit 2 NRCB 88-01 inspection results.

  • Eight of these breakers (6 each D5-206 and 2 each D5-416) were reported in NaCB 88-81 inspection status letter dated May 26, 1984.

Therefore, a total of 48 breakers has been inspected since the aforementioned letter was sent to NAC.

The cooling tower fans are part of the Auxiliary Essential Raw Cooling Water (AERCH) system.

The AERCH system was removed from service with installation of the new ERCH system pumpin' station.

The above breakers will be uttilzed as spares after spection has been completed.

The five 05-206 breakers listed in enclosure 2 will be inspected in accordance with NRCB 88-01 requirements before startup following unit 2 cycle 3 refueling outage.
