To discuss submittal of a new NAC dry spent fuel storage cask design topical report (TR).
DISCUSSION:
NAC has plans to submit a TR for a storage cask with a capacity of 31 pressurized water reactor (PWR) assemblies.
The cask body is the same design submitted previously for the NAC Storage / Transport cask (docketed under Project No, M.40), a stainless steel and lead cask with a solid neutron shield and a capacity of 26 PWR assemblies. However, a new cask fuel basket is designed to take allowance for burnup credit. NAC expects to submit this TR in mid-July 1988.
Subsequently, NAC plans to resubmit its cask design for storage of consolidated fuel rods (docketed under Project No. M-51).
This cask design has 28 positions for storage in its fuel basket. NAC intends to seek approval for storage of 28 intact PWR fuel assemblies taking credit for burnup allowance in a revised criticality design. Submittal of this TR is planned for mid-October 1988.
Structural espects of the 31 assembly fuel basket design were discussed.
These may affect eask impact limiter design.
