SUBJECT:

. NRC INSPECTION REPORT 70-7001/98016(DNMS)

Dear Mr,

Miller:

, On October 14,1998, the NRC completed a routine resident inspection at your Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. The purpose of the inspection was to determine whether activities authorized by the certificate were conducted safely and in accordance with NRC requirements.

At the' conclusion of the inspection, the inspectors discussed the findings with you and members of your staff as identified in the enclosed report.

l Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within these areas, the )

Linspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, l Interviews with personnel, and observations'of activities in progress. During the period covered by the report, the conduct of activities at the F' aucah Gaseous Diffusion Plant was generally adequate, although issues with the control of operations were identified which Indicated that additional management attention in this area is warranted. No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the inspection.

The report also. documents the resident inspectors' review of your interim compensatory and final corrective actions taken to implement the commitments identified in an NRC Confirmatory Order issued on April 22,1998. The inspectors concluded that your staff had completed the -l actions identified in the commitments by September 30,1998.

in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice" a copy of this letter, its 1

- enclosure, and your response will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
