_._..__ _____. _ _ -.__ _. _ to ET 98-0073 Page 1 of 17 SPECIAL REPORT 98-002 EIGHTH STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INSPECTION RESULTS Thig report is being submitted pursuant to Technical Specifications 4.4.5.5.b and 6. 9.2 to report the results of the eighth steam generator tube inservice inspection.
The eighth steam generator tube inservice inspection was completed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation on November 6,
1997 during the ninth refueling outage.
The following inspection programs were completed in steam generators "A" and "D":
100% bobbin coil, 55% Rotating Pancake Coil (RPC) top of the tubesheet, 50% RPC row 1 and 2 U-bends, and a special interest program.
Mechanical plugging was necessary because of indications of anti-vibration bar wear found during the inservice inspection.
Of the 5608 tubes inspected in Steam Generator "A",
a total of five tubes were plugged due to new indications found during the inspection.
Additionally, fourteen of the 5589 tubes inspected in Steam Generator "D"
were plugged due to new indications.
The inspection results, which include the location and percent of wall-thickness penetration for each indication of an imperfection, are listed in Section 3 of this report.

The results of the eighth steam generator tube inservice inspection have been classified into Category C-2.
Category C-2 is defined in Technical Specification 3.4.5 as inspection results that indicate, "One or more tubes, but not more than 1 percent of the total tubes inspected are defective, or between 5 percent and 10 percent of the total tubes inspected are degraded tubes."
Steam Generator "A" has 0.82 percent degraded tubes and 0.089 percent defective tubes. One tube is considered defective and has been plugged as a preventive measure based on wear rate calculations.
Steam Generator "D" has 1.83 percent degraded tubes and 0.25 percent defective tubes.

A. Steam Generator "A": A total of 5608 tubes were inspected full length.
B. Steam Generator "D": A total of 5589 tubes were inspected full length.
