"The device consists-of a depleted uranium shield and polyurethane filler enclosed in a'1/8" .(3.18 mm)- circular steel housing constructed by' rolling a right circular cylinder and heliarcing two circular _end pieces'.

The' depleted uranium shield (approximately 37 lbs. (17 kg)) is secured in place by two circular endpieces. The polyurethane

filler acts as.a cushion'between the' casting and the housing.

A zircaloy "S"[ tube extends through the uranium' shield. At each end there is'a_ lock boxEthrough which the source pigtail cable and male half.of the quick disconnect-connect connector protrude (S-16). !A plunger typeJ1ock secures the source assembly against

movement.in the uranium "S" tube.

S-16 sources'which'are used in cameras other than Gamma Industries-Century and Gamma 35 Models are provided with two locking balls. The ball closer to the capsule is used for Llocking;the source 1in a safe position in the C-10 source.  ;

exchanger and the-ball closer to the connector is for locking the  ;

sources in'a safe position in'the camera.

-Two tamper seals are furnished with the shipment. A protector tube is included' for the protection and the security of the excess pigtail' protruding from the C-10 lock box. The protector tube is

-exactly the proper length'(within an 1/8" . [3.18 mm] ) to protect and restrict t'he movementLof the pigtail. A small hole is drilled through'the lock box and.the' flexible protector tube. When the l protector tube'is in place over the decayed sources,.the.two holes

'are;1ined up and'one of the tamper seals-is threaded through the

, holes and:the tamper seal'is crimped.with a pair of pliers.

The-secondLtamper seal is furnished to secure the-safety. plunger.

'The method.of securing the safety plunger is' identical to the method for sealing with flexible protector tube.
