Dear Mr. Bernero:

This letter provides an update of Philadelphia Electric Company's progress pursuant to Generic Letter 83-28, " Required Actions Based on Generic Implications of Salem ATWS Events," for Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station.

The reference 1 letter described two concurrent programs that should ensure that procedures contain the latest vendor information: one-time vendor manual update and maintenance procedure update.

The status of these programs is as follows:

Maintenance Procedure Update:

One hundred_ sixty-eight (168) of the total 336 procedures have been deleted because it has been determined that they will not be required in the future for routine maintenance activities.

Of the remaining procedures, 117 routinely used procedures have been revised and approved, and 51 remain to be updated.

The vendors are being contacted before the

/

procedures are revised to ensure that the latest vendor fh information is addressed.

We expect the remaining 51 5

procedures to be revised and approved within six months.

k Mr. Robert Bernero March 14, 1986 Page 2 One-time Vendor Manual Update:

We expect the one-time vendor manual update program to be corpleted in June, 1986 with the - exception of the diesel generator manuals.

One hundred percent (100%) of the vendors have been contacted and 88% of the manuals have been updated and issued.

The majority of the remaining manuals are in the NSSS vendor scope of supply, and we are working with the NSSS vendor to update the manuals.

Due to extensive revisions applicable to the diesel generators, the diesel generator manufacturer has informed us that revised manuals will take approximately 18 months to prepare.

The diesel generator manufacturer has assured us that they will continue to forward the appropriate service information letters to Philadelphia Electric Company.

The reference 2 letter discussed our plans for improving our Q-List.

In early 1984, representatives of Philadelphia Electric Company's Electric Production Department, and Engineering and Research Department initiated the development of an improved Q-List.

A project plan has been developed and is -

currently under review.

Resolution of all comments on the project plan is expected to be complete in April, 1986.

A new Q-List is expected to be complete by April, 1987.

Should you have any questions or require additional in fo rmation, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

,f E f-cc:

Mr. Madan Dev, NRC Reactor Engineer Mr.
