This refers to the telephone conversations between Mr. J. J. Petrosino of this office and members of your staff on March 3-4, 1986, regarding our request for specific information concerning Whitney-Blake " Coil Cords" supplied to The Fcvboro Company (TFC).

The " Coil Cords" were supplied by Whitney-Blake and the Gavitt Wire and Cable Company to TFC as a commercial grade item.

The Foxboro part number of the

" Coil Cord" is #N101NW(W108MF), and was ordered by TFC, infrecuently, between 1960-1985.

We are aware of the past changes in your company's organization and management, including your current reorganization efforts, and we understand the Aifficulty you may have in recovering some older records and information.

However, what-ever information that you can supply will be helpful in our evaluation of this matter.

The information that we request is:

1.

During what time periods did you supply TFC with the 15 conductor /

24 gage " Coil Cords"?

2.

When was the last shipment of " Coil Cords" supplied to TFC?

3.

Was a design life of the " Coil Cord" expressed to TFC for their specific applications?

4.

Typically, did Whitney-Blake express any design life for this type of " Coil Cord" to other end users?

5.

Assuming a natural rubber conductor insulation, a 85-95"F temperature, no ozones, humidity control, and infrequent flexing what would you predict as the minimum and maximum life expectancy?

6.

What was the " Coil Cord" wire insulation composition?

7.

Was a synthetic rubber possibly of the butadiene-styrene or butadiene-acrylanitrile type ever utilized for the conductor insulation?

What t.ype of stabilizers were used in the corrpound to prevent early degradation of the insulation?

Was your conductor insulation compound #3577 utilized for all

" Coil Cords" sent to TFC? If so, please provide a list of the materials used in this compound.

Please provide us with any " marketing catalogs" or " Technical Information Sheets" that you may be able to retrieve from your old files, or your former New Haven manufacturing facility.

11.

Please provide copies of any other information that may be helpful in our evaluation, (i.e., " production orders," " compound information,"

etc. as discussed with Mr. A. Possidenti).

Please specifically identify any information which you consider proprietary, so we may treat it accordingly.
