Limerick Generating Station, Units 1 and 2 Changes to National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Perrnit

Dear Sir / Madam:

This letter is being submitted in accordance with the Limerick Generating Station (LGS), Units 1 and 2, Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) Section 3.2, which stipulates that the NRC shall be notified within 30 days following the date of approval of a change to the National Pollutan' Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.

By letter dated September 18,1908, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) amended LGS NPDES Permit No. PA0051926 authorizing the use of chemical additives inhibitor AZ8104, Depositrol PYS206, and Spectrus BD1500, These chemical additives will be used for controlling corrosion, scaling, and algae growth in the secondary cooling water systems at LGS. The NRC was previously notified of our request to revise the NPDES permit to use these chemicals by letters dated August 21,1998, and September 1,1998.

Accordingly, this letter provides the required notification of a change to the NPDES permit and is being submitted within 30 days of the permitting agency's, approve ~ in accordance with the requirements of the LGS EPP. A copy of the PA DEP letter amending the LGS NPDES permit is attached.

Disenarge containing chemical additives to control corrosion, scaling, algae, slime, i

fouling, oxygen, etc., shall be managed by the permittee to ensure that toxic effects in the i

receiving stream are prevented. Usage rates shall be limited to the minimum amount necessary to accomplish the intended purposes of chemical addition.
