SUBJECT:

PURDUE UNIVERSITY - EVALUATION MEMORANDUM By letter dated August 1, 1988, Purdue University submitted a request to amend L

their SNM-142 license.

Purdue is requesting that they be allowed to move 1 gram of PU-239 waste from their Phannacy Building to their Civil Engineering Building.

In riviewing their Physical Security Plan I noticed that there was no mention of the Pharmacy Building as a storage area.

I called Mr. James Schweitzer, j

Radiological Control Officer, to clarify their request.

I indicated that only the Duncan Annex and the Physics Building were referred to in the plan as security areas where material was stored /used. He indicated that that is where 99% of the material was and the only other material is the PU-239 (1 gram) in the Pharmacy Building.

Their license renewal, dated June 18, 1987, does mention the Pharmacy Building as the Building where the PU-239 is stored. Mr. Schweitzer indicated that the same security measures ad controls will apply to the in-wall vault in the p

Civil Engineering Builatng, o8 pgo-

! indicated to Mr. Schweitzer that their next security plan revision should i

go mention this new building and submit a drawing for it, s

mo There are no safeguards concerns associated with this amendment request.
