Dear Sirs:

Generic Letter 88-03 resolves Generic Safety Issue 93, "Steam Binding of Auxiliary Feedwater Pumps," by perpetuating the recommendations of IE Bulletin 85-01. The referenced correspondence provides the Rancho Seco response to IE l Bulletin 85-01.

Pursuant to the requirements of Generic Letter 88-03, Rancho Seco has verified that procedures remain in place to:

1) monitor fluid conditions within the AFW system each shift during times when the system is required to be operable. (This nonitoring ensures that fluid temperature at the AFW pump discharge is maintained at ambient conditions), and
2) recognize steam binding and restore the AFW system to operable status should steam binding occur.

Rancho Seco will continue to maintain these procedures.

Pursuant to the request contained in Generic Letter 88-03, the following estimates are provided for your information: staff time to perform required confirmation (1 hot!r); staff time to prepare required documentation (12 hours1.388889e-4 days <br />0.00333 hours <br />1.984127e-5 weeks <br />4.566e-6 months <br />).
