Dear Mr. Denton:
Commonwealth Edison requested, via reference (a), removal of the requirement for chlorine detection from the control room habitability ventilation system due to several reasons, including the very low (or zero) frequency of chlorine barge traffic on the Illinois River.
Due to the potential for changes in the chlorine shipping patterns within 5 miles of the LaSalle County Station site, the staff recomended that a periodic survey of chlorine traffic be performed.
Commonwealth Edison comits to perform these surveys every 3 yaars and to perform associated evaluations to ensure that the protection of control room personnel from risk due to any potential chlorine accident is maintained sufficiently small. The results of these surveys and evaluation will be documented in the annual report.
