08 Nuclear Assurance Corporation Model No. NAC-1 Cask Docket No. 71-9183 l
I Enc 1 to Ltr dtd HP 15 INI 1.
Justify using design tiedown loads of 2.0g for the cask supports in each ofthethreeprincipaldirections(i.e. longitudinal, lateral, and vertical) instead of the 10, 5 and 2g loads specified in 10 CFR Part 71.
2.
Justify that the material strength of Aluminum 6061 T6 used in the analysis is higher than that shown in Table 1-8.4, Appendix I, Section !!! of the ASME Code.
[
f 3.
Provide the dimensions and the locations of cask supports, mounting plates, 150 container floor plates, floor beams, and the bolts on l
Drawing Nos. 347-586-F2 and 347-586-F3.
)
5)ecify the materials used for the bolts in the package. Also 4
tie sources for the material properties used in the analysis of provide the bolts.
5.
Show how the channel cross members are supported for both the Adamson and the Evermaster containers.
Provide an analysis of the load carrying capability for both containers.
l 6.
The combined strength of the welds and bolts were used in analyzing the cask support attachment.
The welds and the bolts ray not act simultaneously and may fail in sequence. Justify that the welds and the bolts will be acting simultaneously.
7.
Provide a sketch for the Adamson ISO container showing the arrangement of
[
the thirty i" 9 steel rivets and the added six 3/8" 9 grade 5 high strength bolts on the floor plate. Also, justify the assumption that Sy=55 ksi for the rivets, f
8.
The equation used to calculate the stress of the aft support assembly lug plate is not applicable to the loading and support condition.
Show that the combined stiffnesses of the lug and gusset plates are adequate to transfer the strap force (which is applied eccentrically on the lug plate i
to its center where the connection bolt is located).

9.
Dimensions which are not identifiable from the drawing h in the analysis of the welds for the af t support assembly. ave been used Please provide design sketches showing the length and size of the welds for the
[
various parts that were jo %ed together to resist the applied load.
- 10. The longitudinal tie down force is acting alone on the forward support as discussed on page 1 vf the fuel Novement Project, Therefore, the longitudinal load e ' u 27 and H should be doubled.
Revise the l
analysis on pages 1
aW ! ' t) sc vant for the increased longitudinal forer
11.
It appears that the same weld may have been used to resist upward, longitudinal, and lateral loads in separate calculations (pages 27, 28).
Provide a design sketch to show all tie welds and calculate the stress based on cornbined loads.
