Gentlemen:

This refers-to'the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. K. R. Ridgway of

this office on April 11-14, 1988, of activities at the Purdue University

Reactor authorized by NRC Operating Licenses No R-87 and SNM-142 and to the

discussion of our findings with you, Dr. Clikeman, and Dr. Schweitzer at the

conclusion of the inspection.

The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during i

the ins)ection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a select.ive

examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and

interviews with personnel.

No items of noncompliance with NRC requirements were identified during the

course of this inspection.

In accordance wi.h 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of

tnis letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC

Public Document Room.
