MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PIANT SAFETY / RELIEF VALVE FAILURES AND CHALLENGES 1985 The following is a summary of the safety / relief valve challenges and failures for 1985

1) On June 12, 1985 a reactor scram amd MSIV closure resulted in SRV low-low set system actuation. The "H" low low set SRV controlled reactor pressure between 1040 and 960 psig by opening and closing 3 times during the overpressure transient.

Reference LER 85-010,

2) On October 12, 1985 high SRV discharge line temperature, greater than 200 F, indicated excessive pilot or second stage leakage on SRV "G".

The SRV topworks were replaced during the weekend shutdown.
