Dear Mr. Davis:
Reference (a) transmitted the results of a special safety inspection conducted by Mr. J.A. Gavula, of your office, from September 19, 1997 through March 4, 1988, of activities at Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station Units 1 and 2.
Reference (b) provided our response to the inspection report.
The purpose of this letter is to provide clarification regarding the corrective actions taken and results achieved pertaining to item of Violation la (drywell structural steel connections).
In Reference (b), comonwealth indicated (in the corrective actions taken and results achieved portion of our response to the Notice of Violation), that the drywell structural steel beam connections for Quad Cities Unit 1 and a sample of the Unit 2 connections had been inspected and evaluated. As a result of this review, thirteen (13) Unit I connections and beams were identified which required repairs in order to satisfy the FSAR requirements.
These repairs were completed during the Fall 1987 Quad cities Unit 1 refueling outage. The remaining Quad Cities Unit 2 drywell structural steel connections will be inspected and evaluated in the ongoing Spring 1988 refueling outage.
If repairs are required, they will be made during this outage to bring the connections within the FSAR limits.

Full compliance will be achieved on Quad Cities Unit 2 upon completion of the Spring 1988 refueling outage during which time any repairs which may be required will be
'made to bring the connections within the FSAR limits. These repairs will be made prior to returning the unit to service.
