REFEREhCES:
Note dated July 13, 1988 (Heiskell to MacDonald Note dated August 4, 1988 (Heiskell to MacDonald)
The NRC staff has reviewed the information provided by the above references concerning the shipment of possible leaking C.137 capsules from RSI, Decatur, Georgia to ORNL in the Model No. GE.600 cask.
The sources will be contained individually in an encapsulation canister in accordance with Condittor, S.(b)(1) of Certificate of Compliance No. 5980.
Pressure drop tests will be performed to ensure a leak. tight seal of 1x10-3 a tm.cc/sec. The valves are protected from impact conditions of transport.
A detailed structural analysis was not submitted, but the design appears reasonable and sufficient. A small amount of residual water may remain in the canister following the drying procedure.
The staff believes the proposed contents meets che requirements of 10 CFR Part 71.
