OPERATIONS
SUMMARY
APRIL 1988 The unit entered April at 100% power.
The plant continued 100% power operation for the entire month.
MAJOR SAFETY RELATED MAINTENANCE During the month of April, TMI Unit 1 performed the following major maintenance on safety-related equipment:
Nuclear Service Closed - Cooling Pump NS-P-1C - Nuclear Service Closed Cooling Water Pump NS-P-lC was removed from service because of increased vibration.
The motor / pump was uncoupled and the rotating assembly was removed from the casing. All parts were cleaned and inspected.
New bearings were installed and the rotating assembly was reassembled. A new mechanical seal was installed and the rotating assembly was reinstalled in the pump casing. The i
motor / pump then was aligned and coupled.
The punp was tested satisfactorily and returned to service.
j Nuclear Service Closed - Cooling Valve NS-Y-100 - Nuclear Service Closed Cooling water Valve N5-V-10C (N5-P-lC discnarge check valve) was opened for inspection and modification during the NS-P-1C overhaul. The valve internals were removed and inspected. A mechanical stop was welded to the valve cover to eliminate excessive movement and wear of internals. The valve was reassembled and tested satisfactory during the NS-P-1C retest.
