l TEOJAN NUCLEAR PLANT

SUMMARY

.F OPERATING EXPERIENCF August 1988 i The plant entered the month in Mode 1 at 100% power.

On August 12 at 0005 hours5.787037e-5 days
0.00139 hours
8.267196e-6 weeks
1.9025e-6 months
, power was reduced to 90% for turbine- !

valve testing. Power was restored to 100% at 0210. On August 16 4

at 1107, a reactor trip occurred on a RCS loop 'B' low flow !

, signal. Reactor coolant loop 'B' flow transmitter FT-424 was out

) of service for calibration with ita low flow bistable tripped.

Venting of FT-424 caused a transient on a second loop 'B' flow transmitter, FT-425, which shares a common high pressure sensing line. This caused it to indicate below the low flow setpoint and ;

trip its low flow bistable. This satisfied the logic for a reactor : rip on loop low f'aw. All of the plant's safety systems functioned as expected. Reactor restart was commenced at 1935, with the reactor being taken critical at 2016. The reactor was ,

resurned to 100% power at 0458 on August 17. j On August 23 at 1505, power was reduced to 95% to maintain !

condenser vacuum within limits. Power was returned to 100% at !

1952. [

On August 25 at 0007 hours8.101852e-5 days
0.00194 hours
1.157407e-5 weeks
2.6635e-6 months
, power was reduced to 90% for turbine

 • stop and control valve testing. Power was restored to 100% at 0300.

j The plant was operating at 100% power at month's end.

l MAINTENANCE i

Pressurizer pressure transmitter PT-456 failed five times during '

the month. The transmitter was replaced and returned to service ;

following the first four failures. The transmitter was out of j service at month's end pending completion of an engineering j

evaluation of replacement instructions prior to replacing the transmitter again. The failures appear to be a continuation of t

! previously identified problems with bourdon tube failures in this type of transmitter. A long term plan to replace these l transmittters with a different design is underway. i j -Replaced faulty main turbine 'B' master trip solenoid. !

i -Completed 'A' and 'B' train outages for safety related equipment I i maintenance.

l

-Backflushed steam generator blowdown heat exchanger to reduce ,

fouling, geo9150166 880831 !
